A rather painful release of
HippoHX is out there for you to enjoy. It has taken me longer than I expected, of course, but all in all, I think it's a good release. Especially because:
- The first version of the help file is in place. As I've said before, documenting takes a long time and it's not funny, but as a software developer you have to go through it if you want people to try what you do. I hope it's a good starting point.
- I've improved quite a bit usability details on the GUI so now it's even simpler to use.
- Basic integration with haXeVideo. That means that you can have an application running off a CD plus no internet connection and still allow users to record themselves through webcam and mic. If this doesn't sound like a big deal to you, think for example about e-learning apps for languages. You can allow your students to record while they practice pronunciation.
Haven't decided yet what's going to make it for the next release, but I fancy giving a go to SQLite integration. However, what I'd really, really, really want to get rid of is some very tiny-but-still-annoying issues on SWHX and Systools that IMHO prevent HippoHX to be ready for the masses. The problem is my C is not up to the challenge and I'm not sure if Nicolas, Ian or Lee have time to do it. Who knows, it might be the kick in the butt that I need to learn the basics of C, stop whining and do the job myself.
Anyway, if you want to try something different from AIR, Zinc or Shu, give
HippoHX a spin. Ideas, contributors, patches and general feedback more than welcome.
